Character Preparation

Get those creative juices flowing! As has been mentioned in the 'A Retcon, But Why?' section, the purpose of all of this is to reconsolidate the loose threads of narrative into a streamlined story.

Personally, I felt that a lot of characters backstories weren't fully explored or realised in a meaningful way. On the other end of the spectrum, I had integrated some backstories into the overarching narrative related to players who didn't have enough time to be part of the table.

What you need to know:

  • You can play the same character with the same story beats.
  • You can re-write all aspects of your backstory if you like.
  • You can create a brand new character

It is really up to you how you want to proceed in the context of the retcon. The most important thing is that your character fits in with the theme of the world - Hopelessness.

Not to say your character needs to be hopeless. They could be the most cheery person in the world, as long as it makes sense in context.

Some key questions to ask before submitting your character:

  • How do they survive on this dying world?
  • How are they related to continent of Erimos, where do they come from?
  • What motivates them?
  • What are they trying to accomplish?

Consistent Art Style:

Some of us love creating AI art, and I'm here for it. Once Art has been created I will be likely re-working it to fit into the consistent art style of the campaign.

If you're interested, I'm happy to share the prompt I am currently using to create art.

The Hippo in The Room

This is a hard topic to talk about, because I know a lot of people in the campaign are very attached to their characters bestial race. There may be some exceptions, but to keep the tone of the campaign in line with my own expectations, I will be limiting the selected races.

The most bestial races will tend to be reptilian, think Dragonborn, Kobold & Tortle. Reptilians with scaly skin are well adapted to a live on the continent of Erimos.

However, some races that have been cut due to thematic and ease of play reasons are as follows.

  • Giff
  • Aarakocra
  • Owlin

If you are unsure about races when creating a character, the best bet is to a

I apologise is this may be a sore spot for some people, I assure you though, I have loved every moment playing with your characters, and I can't wait to see what you come up with next!

Ruleset & State of Play

Ruleset

We will be starting a fresh campaign with a fresh ruleset. Get ready for Clan Skro's official first step into D&D 2024 or 5.5e!

D&D 2024 is backwards compatible with 5e (2014), this will allow us to use elements of the old ruleset such as subl-classes within the new rules. It is almost guaranteed though, that we will need to tweak these elements to fit into the new ruleset.

Regardless, once you character has been confirmed, the lore-keepers and DM will discuss implementing this into the system.

State of Play

The plan is to record all sessions, banter and all. Once we enter the setting, I want us to try our best to stay in character. Implications of this though.

Online Sessions?

Unfortunately, for some we will be switching to a In-Person only playstyle, which will allow us to talk more naturally, and play off of each other's energy.

(Pending Global Pandemic or WWIII)

Nerf's

  1. All Character's will be reverted to Level 5
  2. Player Income will reset. You will start with 500 gold, consider this winnings from the Glorydome, or obtained in some other way. (Context, some players in the original campaign have nearly 10,000 gold on their person - Money is essentially meaningless)
  3. Items removed or redesigned: All Very Rare, Legendary or Artifact items are to be removed, redesigned or swapped with a lower rarity item. (Context, same reason as the income reset. These items should feel special)
  4. Flight - Any items or spells that allow flight are not aloud.
  5. If you have any questions about item's and spells that you're unsure of, please reach out to the DM.
